All You Need to Know About Dengue

Research suggests that out of the 96 million cases of dengue reported each year, 33 million cases are from India. So, we can clearly see that we are at the risk of this deadly disease if it is not diagnosed on time and then, treated medically. This disease is more prevalent during the monsoon season in the tropical and sub-tropical regions across the world.

What is Dengue?

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to human beings through the bite of infected femaleAedes mosquito. These viruses are four types of types -, DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, or DEN-4.  It has been found that a person can be infected by one or at the maximum two types of dengue viruses at one particular time. Dengue is also popularly known as ‘Break-bone Fever’as it affects the bones and muscles of the patient causing unbearable pain in the bones.

The infection is not transmitted from one person to another but from the bite of infected female mosquito to human beings.

Symptoms of Dengue

The symptom of dengue varies from person to person and also depends on the age of the person. In some cases, no symptoms might be there because of the mild infection. However, some of the common symptoms are as follows –

  • High fever( as high as 105F)
  • Sever pain in the muscles and joints
  • Severe headache
  • Red rashes all over the body
  • Vomiting, nausea and diarrhea
  • Severe pain behind the eyes
Preventive Measures
  • Wear full sleeves clothes
  • Use insect repellant
  • Use mosquito repellant cream on the exposed parts of the body
  • Avoid stagnation of water in your house or vicinity as it is the breeding ground for mosquitos
