Fruits are rich in essential vitamins and antioxidants, and they are needed for good health. They are, however, a source of simple sugars and should thus be consumed in moderation and at the appropriate time.

People with diabetes can eat fruits in portioned amounts based on their blood glucose control and activity level. It is best to eat seasonal, slightly unripe fruits as a mid-meal snack. Avoid eating fruits with or immediately after meals.

Fruits should be combined with nuts such as almonds , pistachios, and walnuts to reduce blood glucose spikes. Consult your dietitian to determine how much fruit you can consume and when the best time of day is to consume it.

Simple sugar comes from sources like sugar, jaggery, and honey, and they all have a comparable effect on blood sugar levels. Between 65 and 85 percent of jaggery is sucrose. The Gl is high in both sugar and jaggery. They are comparable in calories and have a comparable glycemic index, which results in comparable blood sugar increases, with the exception of the difference in production process. Jaggery cannot therefore be used in place of sugar in the same quantities for better blood glucose management.
